I had trouble in Redhat 9 with modem detection. If it is a Winmodem, you can forget about it. I had to install a new U.S. Robotics V 92 internal modem, and even after I installed the driver, it still couldn't locate it. Luckily, the driver installation told me the location of the modem, which was /dev/ttyLT0 or something like that. After going to internet configuration and typing in the /dev address, it started working. The old Rockwell modems will not work in Linux. The other HCF chipset modems will work if you want to pay $15 for the driver, but it would be better just to buy a new modem at that price.
Also, no one has ever made any response to any of my problems on these forums. I have had to fix all my problems by myself.
