Modem Installation on SUSE 10 x86_64 on Gatway 7510gx

I am having trouble getting my laptop's modem to work. I am running under the 64 bit version of SUSE on a laptop with an AMD64 processor. In the laptop specs, it says I have Conexant AC'97 Audio Controller and a AC'97 Modem Controller (no sure if they are related).

I tried to look at Linmodem, but was totally lost. I hope some one have been through this before.

You have probably long since solved the problem. First, get the scanModem tool from linmodem. Once you've identified the type of modem chipset you have (the two main types are HCF and HSF), go to http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/ - as far as I know, the only source for Linux drivers for modems with Conexant chipsets.
