Minumum hardware req's for new build?

edit:
Is there ANY Phenom 4x for AM2+ Socket, that's better that the CPU that I have now?

---------------------------------------------------------------
I need to build another desktop, and need to get an idea of MINIMUM requirements for the machine - RAM, CPU, cache, PSU... Mobo has to be DDR2 compatible, since I have the 6G now, and 2 additional 1G sticks.

It's a dedicated movie machine ONLY, with 18 Tb of drivespace - 3 x 4Tb, 2 x 3Tb drives, and a 250G for Ubuntu + W7 dual boot, no web browsing or anything else.

Ideas?

The one I've used for 6 years is:
AMD Athlon 64x2 6400+ 3.2GHz
6 G Ram

Works well, but at the time of build, I had only 11 Tb drivespace, so it's time to build.......

The question is more of why do you feel your weak spot is cpu? That cpu ought to be fine for a server use.

You think that the CPU that I have now is good enough there jefro?

I load Windows 7 because Media Player Classic is the best media player.

Most times, it takes a long time - 15 - 20 seconds, to load a drive, when I click on it. Seems to me that mapping the drivespace is what takes longer than it should.

Isn't mapping drivespace a function of processor cache?

I'm clueless on it......................

I would suggest you to specify your problem exactly, otherwise we cannot suggest you a solution. Looks like you have a problem when you plug something into an usb port, but I can only guess...

Which drive it is? PATA, SATA, SCSI, USB, HDD or Optical Drive?

Old drives behave like that. Try using a new drive and see.

AM2 socket will take upto Phenom II x6, but the problem is not the cpu. How did you setup your drives in bios? Most of those boards are supposed to support 6gigs transfer rate on some of the sata ports.
Did you setup support for ahci or ide in the bios? If it's set as ide linux will accept the change in bios but windows will have tobe edited or it won't boot.
Changing from ide to ahci will give you the fastest transfer speed.
If that seems to be yiur problem try googling "converting windows to ahci". Also look in bios, the ahci setting is as bottom if the list of hdd's.
