Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

mandrake 9.1 - LILO - windows on a raid0 array

Hello all,

I'm a newbie so hopefully my question isnt stupid, but i coudlnt find this same problem anywhere else. I installed mandrake 9.1 this weekend, and LILO works fine for loading linux. I also have a RAID 0 array on the highpoint htp372 controller on my motherboard with windows XP installed on it. I know the install is still intact and fine because if i go into my bios and tell it to boot off that raid array it works fine, and if i tell it to boot off my hdd0 (which shows up to linux as hde) then it will go to lilo and i can load into mandrake.

When i was originally installing linux I thought i had set it up, by telling it to look on "/dev/ataraid/d0" or "/dev/ataraid/d0p1" to boot windows as an option. but neither of those worked, now when i try to go to it and change it in the lilo config the dropdown menu gives me the following choices for root:
/dev/ {hda1, hde1, hdh1, hdg1, hde5, hde6}
from what i gather, hdg, hdh are two storage hard drives that shouldnt be involved in the picture, and hda is one of the drives i have on the raid array, (one of the two). I have tried several combinations of these in the lilo config, but every one i try, when it tries to boot to windows it says somethign about how \system32\hal.dll is corrupted etc.. and windows cant start.

Can anyone help me out here? do i need to install extra raid drivers in linux? or is there some other choice i can make in the lilo config to get it to work?

Thanks in advance.

Moved to the Hardware Forum

You may want to ensure that you have kernel support for your ATA RAID controller. Do you have the kernel source installed on your system? (check to see if you have a bunch of stuff under /usr/src/linux).
