Making a linux based pc emulate a standalone firewire drive

Answers to this question are hard to find because I keep finding information about USING a firewire drive with linux, however I'd like to do the opposite.

I'd like to use software RAID 5 on an IDE based Linux box (I could install any distro that would facilitate this) and have the entire PC appear as a drive that could be plugged into a PC or Mac that supports firewire. I know I could make this work with IP over firewire or something, but I want to know if there it's possible to make the PC emulate a drive, or represent itself as a firewire device (an external drive in this case)? Would I need any special hardware beyond a supported firewire card / chipset?

If I'm on the wrong forum, let me know where I should be asking this question. Thanks!
