problem sata driver on kernel 2.6.6
Hi all.
I 've just installed my new Hitachi 160Go S-ATA HardDrive on my P4 motherboard a Asus p4p800 with an integrated sata controller ...
This is the first time i use sata ...
in the kernel, i've enable piix sata support (in scsi section).
The hardrive is detected as /dev/sda, but i'm wondering about 2 things :
1/ shouldn't it have been detected as hde ? SATA is ATA so it would be more logical ...
2/ i got really low perf compared to my PATA drive :
3zechiel:/proc/scsi# hdparm -tT /dev/hda /dev/sda
/dev/hda:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 3064 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1531.47 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 156 MB in 3.01 seconds = 51.80 MB/sec
/dev/sda:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 3056 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1526.71 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 70 MB in 3.01 seconds = 23.29 MB/sec
as u can see, i got my sata drive has half speed than my pata one OO
moreover, cpu usage is bigger
(max 15% with PATA , and it can reach more than 30% with SATA )
i guess something is wrong here... but i don't know what ... and i'm really not familiar with SATA ... i would be really thanksfull if anyone could help me ^^
