Low FPS with GeForce FX 5700 Ultra/AGP/SSE2

Hi all, I'm trying to figure out why I'm getting really horrible FPS with glxgears with a GeForce FX 5700 Ultra/AGP/SSE2. Its got AGP 8x, VBIOS Versioon 04.36.20.37.00, Video Memory: 128MB, Nvidia Driver version: 1.0-8178:

589 frames in 5.0 seconds = 117.721 FPS
393 frames in 5.2 seconds = 75.978 FPS
311 frames in 5.0 seconds = 62.132 FPS
871 frames in 5.0 seconds = 174.098 FPS

In your device module section it doesn't look like you are putting the Load "nvidia" line in. I would give that a shot and see what happens. Don't forget to restart X. Hope this helps.

Do you mean this:

Code:
Section "Device"
    Identifier "NVIDIA Corporation NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX 400]"
    Driver "nvidia"
EndSection
Because I've already got that set.

I saw that 1.0-8756 was released, so I updated to that, no change. I updated to xorg7.0 modular system (running debian unstable), and nothing changed.

This is misplaced, surely. nvidia is a driver, not a module.

Well, it looks like direct rendering is working, all that comes to mind is maybe the client apps are not finding the right library, for some reason. What does 'strace glxgears' show? OTOH, it could be something completely different!

I get the same when the Composite extension is enabled but I am using X11R6.8.

Add one of the following to the device section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf or /etc/X11/XF86Config.

AllowGLXWithComposite "False"

or

AllowGLXWithComposite "True"

Actually nvidia is a module to the kernel. To X Window System, it is a driver.
