Loud beeps when Wireless PCMCIA card is initialized

Hello, everyone. I have a question about a configuration that I want to change, but I have no idea where to go or in what file to look in order to deal with it.

I'm using SUSE 9.2 (soon to be 9.3) Pro. My issue is during the boot sequence, whenever my Linksys WPC11 wireless card is initialized, I get a very loud beep from my sound card. I think this is just to let me know that the thing has been found and is working. However, the sound is annoying and there's no apparent way to turn it down. It's so loud that it will echo throughout the house (we have tile) and I have to use headphones in order to diminish it. Even then, the sound is loud enough that you'd not want to be wearing the headphones when it fired off.

I'd like to either turn down the sound (preferable) to a more tolerable level, or turn it off all together. I'm sure this is a simple configuration in a config text file somewhere, but I haven't a clue where to look. Anyone else have an idea?

Sorry if this had been previously posted. I did do a search, but didn't find anything of this nature.

Hi.

I'm not sure where cardmgr is started in SuSE (it's cardmgr which send the beeps to the console), but if you can find it, add '-q' to its arguments and it shouldn't beep any more.

See 'man cardmgr' for further enlightenment.

Thanks, Dave. I will check it out when I get home. I hope to get SUSE 9.3 installed tonight, so it might not be an issue.

I'd try 'grep -Rin cardmgr /etc/rc.d/' to see all instances of cardmgr in the init scripts. It should be in there somewhere.

You gotta love the names people come up with for Linux/UNIX programs. "Grep". Sounds almost as pornographic as "Finger."

Thanks, again, Dave. I will look into this tonight.
