Looking for Linux Compatible USB card and also 6 Pin Firewire400 card

Hi,
I have 2 computers that I would like to add firewire or USB cards to:

I have a Dell desktop that is partitioned so that we can run Windows and also a Linux OS. I would like to install a 6 Pin Firewire400 card. One of my friends installed a firewire card, but I'm unable to mount the hardrive while in Linux. Based on various products' system requirements that I've found, I think his card was not compatible with the Linux OS. In fact, most of the products I've come across required a Windows OS.

The other machine I have is a Silicon Graphics O2. I would like to install a USB card or a USB/Firewire combo card.

I would really appreciate any product recommendations/ advice.

Thanks for your time and help!

Helen
