linux does not boot on external board with compact flash

i have a board with VIA eden chipset,which has a slot for compact flash,wherein in m using 512 MB compact flash.
i have loaded rootfile system,and kernel image onto the card and also installed GRUB on the mbr,now whein im trying to boot,the command passes on to the GRUB,the commands that has been passed in the grub.conf file appear on the screen and then the system goes for reboot.

the grub.conf file is as below

Code:
default=0
timeout=5
#splashimage=(hd0,4)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
hiddenmenu

title R&D FC3 (2.6.11.1)
        root (hd0,0)
        kernel /boot/linux  root=LABEL=/console=ttyS0,192008n1 rw init=/bin/sh
        initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.9-11.EL.img
        boot
and the /etc/fstab file is as below
Code:
proc            /proc          proc     defaults          0      0
devpts          /dev/pts       devpts   defaults,gid=5,mode=620   0      0
tmpfs           /tmp           tmpfs    defaults          0      0
LABEL=/         /                ext3   defaults          1     1
~
wht possibly is the reason

my host system is FC3 with kernel version 2.6.11.1

while the kernel image in the CF is 2.6.9.1-EL and corresponding initrd creatd with command

#mkinitrd

ANY INPUT IS APPRECIATED

Does your PC's BIOS support booting from a flash card? If not, then realistically you will not be able to boot from it. Just because you can attach a device to your PC doesn't mean that you can boot from it - it really depends on your BIOS
