I want a cheap digital camera for practical, not aesthetic purposes. 10 years ago I bought one and it didn't work with Linux. Fortunately a member of the gphoto group worked with me to build a driver for it. I felt a bit guilty because it was a crummy camera I had bought as a toy. I hope somebody else got to use the driver.
That one broke soon. I'd rather not put the gphoto group out to write a driver for my next camera. Is there a list of Linux-compatible cameras somewhere?
