I'd like to set up a box (preferably 2nd hand - reduce cost to the max) next to my hifi set and tv as a media center; like a juke box, capable of playing video as well. I'd like some advice on how basic the setup could be and what would be minimal compatible hardware requirements:
-processor
-memory
-video card (tv-out, ?mb)
-sound card (5.1?)
-HDD size (if I understand correctly linux has no problem with big HDDs even if the bios isn't prepared for them.)
-anything else I may be missing out on (would a barebone be a good option? - the smaller the easier to fit in)
Secondly, for setup I would have to have a keyboard plugged in, but are there any easier options for day to day use like maybe a remote controll?
Later on I'll probaly want to add a lan (wireless) in order to be able to listen to music from my office pc as well, but that not a primary necessity.
I'm also interested in the softwrae I'd need, but
I've started a thread on the corresponding forum for that question.
