Question Linux and Serial ATA

Hello. A friend asked me if Linux supports Serial ATA, i don't know that, because i'm still using parallel ATA. He said me Linux didn't work on his PC because it doesn't support SATA. Does anybody know if Linux works fine with SATA? Does the newest distros (and kernels) support it by default?

Thanks in advance.

I use Slackware-10.0 with a SATA drive - works fine.
You will need to enable support in your kernel. It
works fine for me in 2.4.27 and 2.6.7 kernels...
depends upon your mobo and drive...

What to do if you are not able to install Linux on the SATA HDD. Does he need to type a command at the installation process?
Thanks.

I could only answer that question for Slackware-10.0.

What distribution is he attempting to install?

I know without a doubt that the 2.4.27 and later kernels
support SATA, and some earlier ones might. There are too
many variables to discuss without complete information
about his system.

Your question above does not provide any foundational
information for giving you an intelligent reply. It's similar
to asking, "Does a vehicle require a key to start it?"
