[SOLVED] Line in not functioning on 'Creative Labs SB Audigy'

FOR ANYONE STUCK ON THIS, MY SOLUTION IS HERE:

(Something of a double-post from here. Also, feel free to move this to software. I'm not entirely sure where this fits.)

Ever since I started using Linux, I have never got anything to detect any sound from the line-in port. I assume this is a software issue as the line-in port (labeled Analog Mix in both Windows Volume Control and alsamixer).

Here is lspci's description of my sound card:

I have also removed pulseaudio as it was causing problems.

You should run alsa-info.sh and post the results.

The resulting text file goes into so much detail that I'm slightly wary of putting it online, but I did copy it out of /tmp in case it turns out to be of any relevance.

Nothing, I mean nothing of this output will jeopardize your security. It is about your sound and sound only.

Part of alsa-info script runs amixer, its output is interesting, it prints two Line mixer controls, both are turned off, did you try and turn them on? You can use amixer to manipulate those values.

It took a bit of trial-and-error, but my solution was to turn up the volume on both the Line and the Analog Mix 'sliders'. For some reason, the Line (only shown in the playback view) affected the Line-in volume both for recording and playback.

In alsamixer use arrow right to see all sliders.

I know. The confusing parts were all the MMs and 00s and the fact that more than one slider had to be adjusted for the line-in to work properly.
