(Something of a double-post from here. Also, feel free to move this to software. I'm not entirely sure where this fits.)
Ever since I started using Linux, I have never got anything to detect any sound from the line-in port. I assume this is a software issue as the line-in port (labeled Analog Mix in both Windows Volume Control and alsamixer).
I have also removed pulseaudio as it was causing problems.
Many thanks for any assistance

Reason: The issue has been solved and I would like this thread to be of assistance as opposed to just wasting space on the LQ servers

ALSA-Info script has been downloaded /tmp/alsa-info.QZ9cMG7IMD.
Please, re-run it from new location.
Then I obliged with the instruction at the bottom, resulting in this:
Code:

Automatically upload ALSA information to www.alsa-project.org? [y/N] : n
Your ALSA information is in /tmp/alsa-info.txt.GhRjBT4C00
The resulting text file goes into so much detail that I'm slightly wary of putting it online, but I did copy it out of /tmp in case it turns out to be of any relevance.
Part of alsa-info script runs amixer, its output is interesting, it prints two Line mixer controls, both are turned off, did you try and turn them on? You can use amixer to manipulate those values.
It took a bit of trial-and-error, but my solution was to turn up the volume on both the Line and the Analog Mix 'sliders'. For some reason, the Line (only shown in the playback view) affected the Line-in volume both for recording and playback.
Many thanks,
