It's a pain, as it slows everything down, especially when you want to watch a video DVD, but if you switch from cardbus mode to 16 bit mode (the little switch on the side of the pcmcia card), Linux (at least SuSE 9.2) will immediately recognize it.

However, I have not (yet) figured out a way to speed up the DVD video viewing.

Hi, thanks for your information. I usually works with debian, but i will test your comment with hotplug.
If you became to fix the speed trouble, i will be thankfull to know how. For the moment i don't have time to test this kind of things, but i will try....

Thanks and regards

No hay de que...

Only, a new problem has arisen: I was able to write one CD with it, check whether it actually plays video DVDs (it does, at slow speed, as mentioned before), but have since "lost" the connection to the drive, and now SuSE won't recognize it anymore, whether it's in cardbus or 16 bit mode.

But I'm working on it, and will hopefully have some good news in the near (at least not too distant) future.

UPDATE: turns out that for whatever reason, the pcmcia part was disabled, as was - suddenly - the "boot from CD" option in BIOS, after updating the latter.
