Laser Bar Code Scanner

I have a laser bar code reader (LS-300 Multi Interface Gun Laser Scanner)
It is connected through a spliter with the keyboard (keyboard wedge). It works fine on Windows Xp : when it reads a code and "understants it" it makes a beep and the code is written in the selected field (either a txt file, doc , or php form iti dosen't matter). I tried to connect it the my Fedora Core 4 (kernel 2.6.11 and then tried with 2.6.13) today and it lghts up, it beeps when a code is read BUT NOTHING IS WRITTEN. I tried in Open Office , Ktext and even in a php site that works in windows to receive from the barcode reader.
I also tried with a Hp t5525 Thin Client with Linux Embeded and kernel 2.4 and still dosen't work.
What's wrong? Is the speed of writing to fast for linux so nothing comes out?
The reader dosen't have/ need a driver because it is connected to the keyboard and works simultaneusly with it. I cand write the name from the keyboard and read the code with it (on windows).
ANy ideas?

Whoops - edited after more careful reading of original post.

How about seeing if any keyboard events are arriving? Run 'xev', put the focus in the xev window and scan away.

Manged to have it working. It only works on Kernel 2.4 and only if the keyboard is also inserted into the wedge.
Strange because in Xp it worked if I used t without a keyboard.
It also seems there is a problem with kernel 2.6 ....maybe they'll fix this bug in an update.
