KPPP Error message

When I bring up KPPP I get, "/etc/resolv.conf is missing or can't be read. Ask your system administrator to create this file (can be empty) with appropriate read and write permissions". Anyone know what that means.? Could it be why I'm not able to connect with my 56k external serial modem? Thanks.

that's a file that tells the system where your dns name server is.

Create the file in the etc dir, with something like:

nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

The IP address should be given to you by your ISP, probably as either a name server, or DNS server.
