Hi all. I ordered an Edimax wlan card which was supposed to be suported by linux, but now they're sending me a MSI PC54G2 which I'm not sure about. I read something about ndiswrapper, but I'm not sure if it works well. Does someone know if this card is supported by the kernel??
Doesn't have its chipset, so its probably a crapshoot. Honestly, wait till you get it in, run:
/sbin/lspci
Then post up the chipset ID information it gives you and we'll find out. Between the possibility of it being atheros, prismGT, etc... if not ndiswrapper get nearly everything else, but that's a pretty odd little manufacturer, so its going to be long odds on finding out before hand.
ok, I'll have to wait until tomorrow then. According to this link it works on FC3 and other distros. Apparently it has a ralink chipset; maybe it works. Anyway, we'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if it works. . . In the meantime I'm crossing my fingers. Thank you.
Ok, they finally sent me an Edimax EW-7128g. According to linuxwifi.com it works with the ralink open source driver. I followed the instructions listed here . Substituted /usr/src/linux for /lib/modules/2.6.9-1.667/build which is where FC3 has the kernel (I think). The problem is, when I run modprobe to load the module, I get this error:
Code:
[root@localhost Module]# /sbin/modprobe rt2500
FATAL: Module rt2500 not found
What might be wrong and how to solve it??
Thanks in advance.
modprobe reads a file called /lib/modules/kernel-thingy-number/modules.dep, in order to build the rt2500.ko into that make certain the module is in the module tree somewhere and just run "depmod -a" and you should be able to get modprobe back, which means that FC should just auto-load the puppy for you in the future via hotplugd.
Hi all, I have several problems configuring this. First, anytime I reboot, module rt2500.ko disapperas (I get an error module not found when I run insmod or modprobe) and I have to go to the installation process again and again. Second, when I load the module I use an uttility that comes with the driver called RaConfig2500 but I can't connect. It's an open free wireless connection that does not requires authentication, so it should be easy, but when I use RaConfig it says connected, but doesn't seem to be any active connection. Can someone help??
Thanks in advance.
