is /proc/pci kernel dependent?

I noticed I do not have /proc/pci on my system running a 2.6.9 kernel, but I do have it on my system running a 2.6.8 kernel. Is having /proc/pci dependent on my kernel version or is this dependent on the disribution you are running. Both of my systems are running gentoo.

It's an optional feature of the kernel. To enable it either set CONFIG_PROC_FS=y in your .config for the kernel or enable it through the configuration menus at "File systems ---> Pseudo filesystems ---> /proc file system support".
