Question Intermittant Network Card

Hello,

I've installed Mandrake 10 Community and I've been using it with WinXP in dual boot configuration, so I reboot fairly often.

Sometimes when I boot Linux, everything works great. Other times, the Initializing eth0 returns FAILED, but once I get in to KDE everything is fine. Other times, i get Initializing eth0 FAILED, and it does not show up when I run ifconfig.

I'm running 2 NICs, and the problematic one is a Lynksys NC100. I've had no problems with it under WinXP, 2000, or even RH6 (it's a pretty old card). Does anyone know what I can fo to diagnose it, or if there is anything I can do fix this?

Thanks in advance!

If it gets detected intermittantly, you may have a problem where it doesn't know which one to use, but I think that its just flakey detection of the card. I have a Linksys card as well. It works with Community without a problem, but with beta2 and rc1, I had to manually load the driver until I found that entering the mosule name into /etc/modprobe.preload (the alternative to /etc/modules but for 2.5 and newer kernels). The file is commented well, so you'll know what to do when you open it as root with your favorite editor. Try "forcing it" that way and see if you get a constant connection. By the way, the boot messages still tell me that my eth0 has failed (but it retries now) but I still am on the network when booted up.
