I have a haswell i7-4710HQ, I've tried a lot of guides on how to limit the CPU frequency/disable turbo boost, but they don't work, I think this is because my processor is a haswell part but I'm not sure. Could anyone help me please?
Thanks for the quick reply. Thing is, what info can I provide? I cannot disable Turbo Boost in the BIOS, it's a laptop. I have tried guides like this: "http://luisjdominguezp.tumblr.com/post/19610447111/disabling-turbo-boost-in-linux" but this is what I get:
GE70-2PE:/home/aethereal # rdmsr -p0 0x1a0 -f 38:38
rdmsr: open: No such file or directory
GE70-2PE:/home/aethereal # wrmsr -p0 0x1a0 0x4000850089
wrmsr: open: No such file or directory
I've tried with and without root privileges, nothing works
The laptop is an MSI GE70 2PE Apache Pro. There is no option in the UEFI BIOS to disable Intel Turbo Boost, all I want to do is to stop Linux from using this feature, because the laptop heats up too much, in Windows you can do that by accessing the power options and setting the processor power management to Max:99%, that's what I want to do in Linux(openSUSE 13.2) and I don't know how to
GE70-2PE:/home/aethereal # rdmsr -p0 0x1a0 -f 38:38
rdmsr: open: No such file or directory
GE70-2PE:/home/aethereal # wrmsr -p0 0x1a0 0x4000850089
wrmsr: open: No such file or directory
You need to have msr-tools installed for that to work.
