Intel Atom N455 a 64-bit device?

Hi: my machine is built around an Intel Atom N455. I have reasons to think this is a 64-bit CPU. Really I could find this information nowhere and, maybe the same denomination is given to the 32-bit version as to the 64-bit version. My only source was Wikipedia. Though on second thought, I think a 32-bit device should have an instruction set which is a subset of the 64-bit device instruction set. I say it because of certain special instructions. What I mean is a program running on the device can decide the matter, am I wrong?

To be somewhat more specific, is an Atom N455 a 64-bit CPU or not? Or is it neither of both and a second ID is needed to know it?

simple test:
try to boot a 64bit OS from it.

Much simpler: run a 64-bit small program. Simpler still: make the program consist of the single CPUID instruction.

Er, just a word of warning... I am typing on an atom n455 with 64 bit PCLinuxOS so the n455 is most certainly a 64 chip. The predecessors - the 'd' series were 32 bit only.

BUT!!! Some early n450/455 model netbooks used 32 bit support chips! This prevents them running a 64 bit OS. Intel gave warnings back in the day. You will have to test on your particular machine.

no.
that will not run if you installed a 32bit system on a 64bit machine.
