I fear you provided far little information for even a shot in the dark.

What is the make/model of the fingerprint sensor? (The command lsusb or lspci issued in a terminal may reveal this information.)

What distro/version are you using?

Has the fingerprint sensor ever worked? If so, with what OS?

what distro, what model number of fingerprint device. two very needed items, as not all distros are setup for using finger print reader, and there is one model I have on my laptop that needs a fix applied to the software. so yeah that is needed information.

I had to dig around on the net until I found my solution and that was for Mint and i no longer use Mint and I do not even remember the particulars of what commands I used to get my device number for my fingerprint device to use that to further look up fingerprint reader to get it to work questions

maybe it was
lsusb
or
lspci

you need to become the detective here.

( oh wait, OP, did frankbell post that before I did, or what?)
