Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

I/O Problem

Hi guys. Currently have a server running on a Chaintech motherboard, 2 Maxtor IDE Hdd. Whenever there's a slightly higher I/O load on the server, this error happens

Quote:
Feb 27 20:13:56 localhost kernel: hda: dma_timer_expiry: dma status == 0x64 Feb 27 20:14:06 localhost kernel: hda: DMA interrupt recovery Feb 27 20:14:06 localhost kernel: hda: lost interrupt Feb 27 20:14:26 localhost kernel: hda: dma_timer_expiry: dma status == 0x64 Feb 27 20:14:36 localhost kernel: hda: DMA interrupt recovery Feb 27 20:14:36 localhost kernel: hda: lost interrupt Feb 27 20:14:56 localhost kernel: hda: dma_timer_expiry: dma status == 0x64 Feb 27 20:15:06 localhost kernel: hda: DMA interrupt recovery Feb 27 20:15:06 localhost kernel: hda: lost interrupt Feb 27 20:15:26 localhost kernel: hda: dma_timer_expiry: dma status == 0x64 Feb 27 20:15:36 localhost kernel: hda: DMA interrupt recovery Feb 27 20:15:36 localhost kernel: hda: lost interrupt
Im thinking either kernel problem (small possiblity, btw im on a 2.4 kernel), loose cable connecting hdd to motherboard, or a failed harddisk.

I've changed my previous motherboard and 2 harddisks already, but after i got these hardware this error came up. Really getting frustrated.... can someone tell me what to do ?

Thanks

Could be a number of things. Did you feed your fav searhengine with this error?

Some mention disableing IO-APIC in the kernel

Processor type and features ->[*] Local APIC support on uniprocessors
[ ] IO-APIC support on uniprocessors

Or disabling SMP support with the kernel boot option "nosmp"
