I always get the message "System is halted"

Hi,

I am using Gentoo and I run 2.6.7. I do not remember when or what I did, but the problem with my system is the following. No matter what command I issue (reboot, shutdown, poweroff) in the end I will see the message "System is halted". Then I can either press the power off button, to turn it off or alt+ctr+del to reboot. If I choose the second option then when the system boots, and it checks the filesystems, it says something like "Journal recover". An indication that maybe the system did not shutdown properly.

Does anybody know how can I fix this? Is this something related to the kernel (apm is compiled and apmd is running)?

Thank you

Just an idea but have you checked your kernel config for APM support and also checked that apmd is emerged and added to the default runlevel.
