Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

HP OfficJet G85 parallel scanner

Hello,

I want to use a HP OfficeJet G85 parallel scanner on Linux Fedora Core 2.
I saw that xsane does not support parallel scanner.
This scanner also has an USB output, but when I tried to use it in USB output with xsane, it did not work. Do I need a special package to make my kernel support an USB scanner? If so, which one?
Or does anyone know a driver or a software which supports parallel scanners?

Thank you.
