hp deskjet 5550 device location?

hello I am trying to setup my hp deskjet 5550 printer in gentoo using cups. I am having trouble locating where the device is connected to. For example, I thought that usually is is lp0, lp1, etc. but if I try and cat /dev/lp0 or any of the lp's listed it says that there is no device connected. I have no usb fold in /dev/ so I am sort of out of places to look. I have cups installed and also have the hpijs driver on my computer but I am just lacking the actual device. It is turned on and if I use the "kinfocenter" to look at my devices it shows my printer in there. Here is the printout.
Code:
deskjet 5550

Manufacturer: hp
Serial #: MY2361K0RC2L

It doesn't seem to give a lot of relevant info but maybe it will help. Thanks for the assistance.

Make sure first CUPS is running, then configure your printer by the web interface putting
localhost:631
in the address bar of your favourite web browser (ie Konqueror),
then follow instructions.
It shouldn't be difficult
Ciao

Thanks for the reply and I have tried the online config tool but unfortunately got nowhere. Even using the config tool you still have to have an idea of where the device is located ie: /dev/lp0 or something. On the webpage I think that I tried all of the usb ports that it listed and none of them worked. I guess I will try again though. Thanks for the reply.
