Dear All,
Can anyone tell me how to uninstall the Fedora core 4?
I cannot install windows ME, fdisk or format the hard disk, after my hard disk is occupied by the Fedora core 4. Thank you very much for your offer of help!
If you prefer not too lenghty uninstallation procedure, do the following:
Boot with Fedora Core 4 disk #1. At Fedora Core installation boot prompt, type
linux rescue
Type list-harddrives
To remove partions, use parted Start parted by typing: parted /dev/sda - where /dev/sda is the partition you want to remove.
Use print command to determine the minor number of the partition you want to remove. print
Now remove the linux partition by typing rm 2 (where 2 is the minor number listed when you typed print.
You're done. At reboot, you can install Windows or other OS you want.
BTW, dont't run away from Fedora Core - it's way too cool
Thank you Bayor99, your instructions worked perfectly! I was able to remove Fedora Core 4 successfully and install Windows Xp. By the way, I have no experience using linux or the 'parted' utility, but your instructions helped me greatly!!!
The only variation was that typing:
Code:
parted /dev/sda
did not work for me. I had no idea that in my case it should be:
Code:
parted /dev/hda
(i guess that our partitions are named differently?).
Anyway, all i had to do was just type:
Code:
parted
all by itself and it defaulted to /dev/hda so i was able to get right back on track.
Just a follow up, and if anyone needs it.
Typing: list-harddrives will list all the hard drives on a linux system, which could be /dev/hda /dev/sda-- common in Fedora /dev/sda1
