you will need to have apm compiled in your kernel and apmd running.
(Advanced Power Management)
right?

you have to enable apm in your kernel. or as a module.
it is part of the kernel source code.

it should be right there on your installation CD's.

Hi AutOPSY et al., I have a follow-up question, if you don't mind: I'm using Fedora Core 1 on a desktop (not a laptop). apmd is running. apm -s at command prompt works well to suspend the system (optical mouse IR shuts off and cpu led begins to blink). In my BIOS, I've got "Suspend Time Out" set to 30 minutes. The problem is, the monitor standby kicks in at around 15 minutes and as a result system suspend never activates (mouse stays on all night, etc.). However, if I set BIOS Suspend Time Out to something less than 15 minutes - i.e., before the monitor standby kicks in - suspend works just fine, just as if I'd run apm -s at the command prompt.

Any idea if the monitor standby is supposed to override BIOS suspend time out? My first thought was to adjust the monitor standby delay to something more than 30 minutes, but I can only figure out how to set it for individual user sessions (via Control Center's display power setup). I can't seem to figure out how to adjust the delay for the login screen (I'm guessing it's in XF86config, right?). Would that be the best solution, just increase my standby delay, or is there another trick I should be using to get system to suspend after 30 minutes idle? Then again, it'd be nice if it went: monitor standby at 15 mins., monitor suspend 30 mins., system suspend 45 mins. Any advice on how to do this?

Thanks in advance for the help!
