Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

How to safely remove a usb wireless adaptor?

I have a usb wireless adaptor that I sometimes need to remove from the computer, but often it locks up my system upon removal, even after typing "ifconfig rausb0 down"

Is there a Linux equivalent to the windows "safely remove hardware" applet for usb devices?

Try to unload the adapter's driver using modprobe or rmmod command before unplugging the adapter. If this doesn't help, this might be hardware support bug which you should report on kernel.org bug tracker (i'm assuming the driver is provided by vanilla kernel).
