How to install TVS MSP 250 Champion printer on AT91SAM9260 board?

Hi all,

This is my first post in this thread. I am working on AT91SAM9260 board has 2.6.26.3-AT91-olimex kernel.

I want to set up "TVS MSP 250 Champion" which is a USB dot matrix printer on this board.

The printer vendor provided one CD contains one PPD file, cupsomatic (perl script) and foomatic-gswrapper (perl script).

How to make my printer working with help of these file?

Can you guide me to set up this printer?

We can probably 'guide you' better, if you told us what version/distro of Linux you were using.

In OpenSuSE, you can go into yast->hardware->printer, click ADD, and follow the prompts to add a new PPD file, and set up the printer. Since you don't say what you're using, we can't give you specific answers. Chances are, whatever distro you're using has a similar mechanism. Go through it as you would setting up any other printer.

I believe this is an ARM9 embedded single board computer. I assume you are connecting the device to the serial port? Are you trying to print bar codes are standard text etc?

Hi TbOne! I don't have the package manager because it is an embedded device.

Hi michaelk! you are correct. AT91SAM9260 is an ARM9 embedded single board computer. I am connecting the printer device in the USB port and trying to print some standard text datas.

Hi All,

My dot matrix USB printer is now working. I did the following.

1. Enabled the USB printer configuration as below in sam91_l9260_defconfig file.
CONFIG_USB_PRINTER=y
2. Cross compiled the kernel and reboot the board with latest uimage
3. Now the printer is detected as /dev/usb/lp0
4. I tried to print a text file "test.txt" with the below command
cat test.txt >> lp0
5. Now the printer is able to print the text file perfectly

Thanks for one and all for your time and patience.
