How to configure RAID

I am new to RAID

I built a new computer based on MSI 890FXA-GD65 motherboard, the moboard comes with RAID controller. You can do Ctrl-F and assign disks to the RAID, I pick RAID 0 with 4 1-TB Hitachi disks. I am running CentOS5.6

Question: what is the device name? How do I mount it? If you answer the first then I take it the RAID will be mounted to a volume then I could specify it in /etc/fstab.

thanks

sure this MoBo fake raid is supported in Linux? Most people stay away from fake RAID controllers, because often Linux does not recognize the RAID devices.

The more common way is building a Linux software RAID which provides more flexibility and better troubleshooting capabilities. Also transfering your RAID disks to another system will be easier with Linux software RAID than any kind of mobo specific RAID.

There is a very nice Linux software RAID Howto.

In many raid arrays that were built from a add on bios the drive is simply viewed as any drive would be.

But, as noted by mesiol, fake/faux/software controlled raid arrays are subject to how the distro was created and what you may wish to add in. They are in some cases nothing what they appear to be.
