Another possible approach -- on my computer, there is an additional hot key to use during boot-up that brings up a list of all possible boot devices connected to the computer. You can select which device to boot from without entering the BIOS setup program or changing any device priorities set in the BIOS program.

I expect this is dependent on the particular motherboard in your machine. My machine has a Gigabyte (TM) Ultra Durable (TM) GA-970A-UD3 motherboard. My BIOS hot key is Delete, and the hot-key for the one-time boot-device selector menu is F12. Your machine is probably different. If you have the user manual for the motherboard, it should explain what boot capabilities are available and what the hot keys are. The hot keys might be displayed during boot, but they go by pretty fast.

On my machine the F12 selector menu contains a list of devices that are not easily recognized. For example, the DVD drive is selected by choosing the menu item "ATAPI iHAS124". ATAPI is the vendor and iHAS124 is the model number. I determined this by running a hardware browser command from the terminal. I run Ubuntu 14.04 and the terminal command is "lshw", which I think means "list hardware".
