Cool hercules fortissimo II gamesurround

Hi. I am pretty new to Linux, though not UNIX in general. I am running Red Hat 7.3 and I have not been able to get my sound to work. I am using this sound card: Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo II. I tried sndconfig, running through pretty much all of the choices on the list, and I can't get any sound. I also tried the "jacking up the volume" trick. In order to verify that I have no sound, I tried playing a CD and also playing the sample sounds in the sndconfig. I would be grateful to anyone willing to point me in the right direction.
Thanks

Here are the computer stats:
Board: Asus A7V333 (VIA KT-333 chipset)
Processor: Athlon XP 2000+
RAM: 512MB PC2100
Video Card: MSI GeForce 4 Ti 4600
Hard Drive: Western Digital 120GB
Speakers: Creative Labs Inspire 5300 (5.1 speakers)
Others: generic DVD-ROM and CD-burner
