Help on getting a Pixmap Imaging webcam to run needed

hello everyone and thanks for your interest.

I have the following issue: I bought a new webcam (manufacturer is Manhattan, type MiniCam). According to v4l, this device is running on linux using the pac207 driver from the gspca superset of drivers. My system (a SUSE 11.1) correctly recognizes the device on the bus as

Code:
Bus 002 Device 006: ID 093a:2460 Pixart Imaging, Inc. Q-TEC WEBCAM 100
and the appropriate drivers are loaded (according to syslog)
Code:
Aug 7 22:24:15 Cassandra kernel: usb 2-2: USB disconnect, address 6
Aug 7 22:24:15 Cassandra kernel: gspca: disconnect complete
Aug 7 22:24:19 Cassandra kernel: usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 7
Aug 7 22:24:19 Cassandra kernel: usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Aug 7 22:24:19 Cassandra kernel: gspca: probing 093a:2460
Aug 7 22:24:19 Cassandra kernel: pac207: Pixart Sensor ID 0x27 Chips ID 0x09
Aug 7 22:24:19 Cassandra kernel: pac207: Pixart PAC207BCA Image Processor and Control Chip detected (vid/pid 0x093A:0x2460)
Aug 7 22:24:19 Cassandra kernel: gspca: probe ok
Aug 7 22:24:19 Cassandra kernel: usb 2-2: New USB device found, idVendor=093a, idProduct=2460
Aug 7 22:24:19 Cassandra kernel: usb 2-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
Aug 7 22:24:19 Cassandra kernel: usb 2-2: Product: CIF Single Chip
Aug 7 22:24:19 Cassandra kernel: usb 2-2: Manufacturer: Pixart Imaging Inc
The device /dev/video is created by udev and the permissions are set accordingly. The device outputs data (checked by doing a cat /dev/video) continuously.

The problem arises when I try to capture any form of data from the camera. In particular, streamer report that:

Code:
streamer -o ~/tst.jpeg
files / video: JPEG (JFIF) / audio: none
no way to get: 320x240 JPEG (JFIF)
movie writer initialisation failed
Apparently the problem does not lie in streamer. Neither xawtv nor webcam, xcam or kopete are able to get an actual image. I suspected the driver might have a problem in its precompiled form, so I compiled the 2.6.30.4 kernel. My Radeon flgrx driver doesn't work with that version anymore of course, but I did it just for being sure. I get the very same error as with my current 2.6.27.19 kernel.

If anyone has had similar problems or knows a workaround, i'd appreciate your help.

thanks

Small update: I tried using libv4l as wrapper via LD_PRELOAD. no changes.

Last update: Problem is fixed using the v4l2 drivers with kernel version 2.6.32.6 and up.
