I recently installed Mandriva 2008 on my pc. So far it's great. But for some reason it won't pick up my dvd burner. It's not like i jst don't have a driver for it ir anything. It doesn't even pick up that it's there and if I push the eject button it won't come out. It's like it's not even hooked up. But when I first turn my pc on it works fine up until linux starts to boot.
If anyone can help me with this I would really appreciate it thanks.

Sounds to me like the drive is being mounted at boot, and therefore, Mandriva will not let you access the hardware.
Try browsing to the drive, or try unmounting it from the CLI. The other option is that it is a power problem, but that is far less likely, since you say that it works just fine before Mandriva boots. It definitely does not sound like a hardware issue.
