Help in creating an scsi0/scsi1 device

ide-scsi from the 2.6 kernel doesn't shove the device into /dev/scd* or /dev/sr* anymore, but instead puts in in scsi*. I don't have any scsi device files in /dev, how would I create one?

You don't need ide-scsi in 2.6.
You do need the latest version of cdrecord though.

to which I do not have, and will not get for fear of screwing my pc up with new libs and other junk, which therefor, i still require ide-scsi.

You already have cdrecord..it's what you need to have to burn cds, you just need to update it to work with the new ATAPI driver in 2.6 that has been created so you don't need to use scsi emulation to burn anymore....

A quote from the post-halloween document,
Quote:
- Jens Axboe added the ability to use DMA for writing CDs on
ATAPI devices. Writing CDs should be much faster than it
was in 2.4, and also less prone to buffer underruns and the like.
- With a recent cdrecord, you also no longer need ide-scsi in order to use
an IDE CD writer.

Where would I go to make it work with cdrecord?

I have ide/atapi cdrom support built in but my cdrecord (2.00.3) doesn't find my drive.

Code:
root@ominous:/home/vexer# cdrecord --scanbus
Cdrecord 2.00.3 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 Jörg Schilling
cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open '/dev/pg*'. Cannot open SCSI driver.
cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you are root.
cdrecord: For possible transport specifiers try 'cdrecord dev=help'.

Do you have a recent version of K3B installed?
What does that have to say about the device?
