hd-pvr: The device does not support the streaming I/O method

I've also posted this onto the hauppauge forum but so far nothing...
I'm running fedora 20 with ffmpeg, I bought a hauppauge hd-pvr because I wanted to capture composite video over usb. The hd-pvr has this printed on it:
HD-PVR
49001 LF
Rev F2
When connected it shoes up fine as /dev/video0, however ffmpeg gives this error:
Quote:
The device does not support the streaming I/O method
I thought I must be doing something wrong so I also tried the hd-pvr in windows 7 with vlc which also didn't work. I installed the driver HD-PVR_Driver_1_7_30059.exe and tried it, vlc gave:
Quote:
The capture device 'Hauppage HD-PCR capture device' does not support the required parameters
am I doing something wrong? will this thing do what I want or should I pass it on and get a different device? Again, my aim is to simply capture/stream composite video over usb in linux with ffmpeg. Thanks for any advice.

Hi:

Maybe the kernel for FC 20 doesn't offer enough support for the device.
-::-***Fedora 20 reached it's EOL on June of 2015.***-::-

The current version of Fedora is 23.

A fresh install of FC may just solve the problem your having.
If you can't get it working under FC 23 it may be that you need the firmware.

I looked up the errors and this is what I found that Google returned.
It's a start. I'm sorry I don't know what's causing the errors. Maybe other members running Fedora will see your thread and chime in.

Maybe some of these links will help or give you some idea what to try.
