Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1100 (Green/Grey image on Composite Input)

Hi,

I'm having a problem getting a decent image on my Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1100. I've tried most of what I've found Googling (full summary below).

This is the type of image I have been getting:

Usually the first time I view the input...
http://s18.postimg.org/lrc0yxe6x/1371128356.jpg

Then it's mostly like this...
http://s23.postimg.org/y64mudgx7/1371128361.jpg

I'm trying to grab the composite input which I have a CCTV camera plugged in to.

I have confirmed that the camera works fine when plugged in to any other device (TV/Monitor).

I've tried this on Kubuntu 12.04 (using mplayer) and Ubuntu Server 12.04.2 (using Zoneminder).

The following output is from my Kubuntu install (using the same hardware as Ubuntu Server install)...

Code:
jbullock@buddha:~$ uname -a
Linux buddha 3.2.0-40-generic #64-Ubuntu SMP Mon Mar 25 21:22:26 UTC 2013 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
Check which input the card is using...
Code:
jbullock@buddha:~$ v4l2-ctl -I
Video input : 0 (Television: ok)
I want to use composite, so...
Code:
jbullock@buddha:~$ v4l2-ctl -i 1
Video input set to 1 (Composite1: ok)
And I'm in the UK, so I'll assume PAL should work...
Code:
jbullock@buddha:~$ v4l2-ctl --set-standard pal
Standard set to 000000ff
I read somewhere that NTSC-M works well... Doesn't make a difference...
Code:
jbullock@buddha:~$ v4l2-ctl --set-standard ntsc-M
Standard set to 00001000
...I've tried other PAL and NTSC settings, too.

I'm really struggling with this. I'm really hoping there's someone on here that can help Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated!

Here's as much info as I can think *may* be relevant...

This is what happens when I open the composite input on mplayer, it gives me a good frame rate but an image similar to http://s23.postimg.org/y64mudgx7/1371128361.jpg ...

Have you tried something like this
Code:
mplayer -tv driver=v4l2:device=/dev/video0:input=1:norm=PAL:outfmt=rgb32 tv://
input=1 this means composite input. Other values are 0 for television and 2 for S-Video

I once had a similar issue but my video had a blue cast. I've used outfmt=rgb32 and it corrected the colors.
