Hard drive problem

Hi,

I am currently using Slackware Linux 10.1, and am having a bit of a problem. After setting the boot to boot to the GUI (Gnome), and after trying to log off and log in as root, Slack froze up on me. So I turned my computer off, and after rebooting and selecting to boot Linux, I get an error hda1 had an error that asked me to type in my root password, or press control-d to continue. No matter what option I pick it just repeats time after time. Even using the boot disk it end up the same way...

Any idea what I can do?

Hello

You must probably have a conflict during booting . By typing to root passwd the system is allowing you to enter in command mode and do any maintenance or repairs . Hopefully this repairs will fix the boot problem . Must look at what the machines is writing in order to see what possibly is causing the conflict

Typing in the root password just causes it to reboot, and the same thing happens when I press control-d. I don't get a chance to do any repairs to fix it.

Well I managed to get to the point where I can type in fsck -f -c -y /dev/hda1 by putting in the install disk and now it works great! Thanks guys!
