Hard Disk Optimization

Hi I have been messing around with hdparm the hard disk can be benchmarked and analysed. I need to see if I can get better results and faster speeds.

Some information I have read on the subject mentions that you can add some parameters to hdparm and alter the access speeds. Can someone go back over the procedure for testing then fine tuning for me as i cant find the site i visited with the info on!!

Thanks

Rob

whats the output of :
hdparm -cd /dev/hdX (where X is the proper letter for the drive)
cause if these are set to 0, then they are the only things i can think of that can give that little performance boost ...

I get /dev/hdX:

IO_Support = 0 (default 16-bit)
using_DMA = 1 (on)

I get that for both hdisks

The thing I was instructed on before (I have checked my command history) is the command hdparm -i /dev/hdX

this returned information on the hard disks individually and without typing it; the o/p shows me model info, config info etc.

The site was mentioning to look at MaxMultSect (mine is 16) and this then could be used as a maximum perhaps that linux through default sets as a lower speed??
