Keep having recurring problem that is giving me fits. Here's my system


HP DV9008NR laptop
AMD64 turion dual processor
Nvidia Go 6150 256MB video
pci-e system
openSuse 10.2 only OS installed


About every week or so, during the boot process, my computer hangs during "Setting up hardware clock". It seems to have some interaction with the Nvidia proprietary driver, because when that happens, the only way I can get back into the system is to restore the default vesa xorg.conf. here's some output:

(Bios is set to GMT, which here is +6 from local)


If I boot with ACPI=off, I can get into the machine (like I am right now), but not with Nvidia driver. Not a big deal though, I know how to get that back once I get the clock thing figured out. I have searched the forums and tried various ways to reset both the system and hardware clocks to match one another, but that does not seem to help.

The main reason I need to be able to boot without the acpi message is that otherwise my wireless nic is not recognized.

Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

Have YOU tried setting the system time correctly in YOUR BIOS? After that; try setting to a Network Time Server, instead. Try setting to Local Time. See any differences? Try Google for YOUR video card setup, someone else might have the same setup. If there are no differences; it would be a hardware issue, most likely.

I also have the problem with the laptop loosing time (HP dv9000 ). Same disto on desktop has no problem, but other laptops also have the problem. NTS isn't an option, as at work it is blocked. Periodically, on startup and shutdown, system hangs when OS attempts to set the hardware clock.

Finally, anytime I attempt to set the timezone in Yast .... system hangs and requires a "hard boot". Since system hangs, cannot find anything in logs.. Does anyone have suggestions on helping me find the problem?
