HalfLife2 on SUSE 9.1 works slow

I run
SUSE 9.1 / Cedega 4.4-1 / nvidia driver 6111
AMD Barton 2500/ RAM 512/ GeForce 5500

I do not like in my favorite game HalfLife2 a few things:
1. It reports that I have hardware DirectX version 8.0
2. I can't get real water, but GeForce 5500 supports shaders. Is cedega lame with that?
3. FPS is not good: 3-15... sometimes 30-35. I had almost the same with GeForce420/64megs and 256 system RAM.

just a thought but 1. nvidia released some new drivers that half-life needed to run in windows
also have you enabled these graphical options in the menu in half-life? maybe switch to open gl redering if you can and if it is that slow try running a differnet gui like gnome or a blackbox based one (name of gui escapes me)
