GRUB, RAID, and my computer.

Problem:
I cannot get GRUB to load my windows installation. It runs everything else fine. I can work around this, but its a pain in the butt to have to open the bios setup everytime I want linux/windows.

Hardware setup: I've got my windows partition on a 160 GIG Raid config between two 80 gig seagate hds. I have my linux installation, which is SuSE 9.1 Professional on a 13 gig IDE hard drive.

}

I've tried setting up a windows menu item several times, but none work.

Any help AT ALL would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
P.S. I posted it in the hardware forum cause i wasn't sure which one to post it in.

I don't have raid, so forgive me if no help. I am confused, where is your windows title and chainloader stuff in the menu? did you forget to copy this to your post? And your linux menu entry which you say boots appears to use /dev/hdg and I suspect (guessing) that is a raid device?

a windows could look like

title windows
rootnoverify (hd1,0) (assuming your device.map file has hd0 ide and hd1 and hd2 as raids)
hide (hd0,0) (assuming your linux /boot partition is /dev/hda1)
makeactive
chainloader +1

post your /etc/fstab and your /boot/grub/device.map file if above did not work

and possible device.map file

(hd0) /dev/hda
(hd1) /dev/sda
(hd2) /dev/sdb
(fd0) /dev/fd0

I'm guessing I didn't make myself clear enough. My problem really is that linux isn't really recognizing my RAID setup. It can't even access the drives. My real question is: how can I make grub recognize my RAID setup? It really isn't the biggest deal if I can't set it up, because I can just use the bootable DVD disc that came w/ SUSE, but i'd rather not. Anyway, i'm having a super huge large big problem w/ Xfree86 more than anything else. Which i'll probably post about later.

lets get your manual mount issues sorted first. You say linux can not recognise your raid.
Please post your /etc/fstab file.

b) its possible your kernel did not have sata support compiled in it. There are a lot of posts you can search on this but post your kernel versions for others to see please.

2) Assuming you can boot into linux, open a terminal and type su to get root password then attempt to mount your first raid manually.

something like

mkdir /mnt/windows

mount -t ntfs /dev/sda /mnt/windows

if that fails either you don't have xp/2k so replace ntfs with vfat
or replace /dev/sda with /dev/hde etc.

I don't have raid oops already said that
