Unhappy graphics problem acer aspire one A150L intel 945 GME

I can't get the x server to work properly. All the intel drivers fail to start the grapchics system (intel, i810, i740) with "cannot allocate memory" error. The only working driver is VESA at 800x600. How can I make it 1024x600?
I downloaded the latest "intel" module and still isn't working.
Any ideas?
I'm running backtrack 3 (slackware based) with 2.6.21.5-smp kernel.

I don't think your kernel is new enough for the acer aspire one hardware..

Quote:
If using another method, make sure the installer's kernel is 2.6.25 or greater to ensure that you have support for the ethernet adapter
Don't have a reference on hand to check the kernel requirements for hte graphics chip.. but it's probably similar

Here are a few how-to's for the AAO you can probably find what you need from them, and apply it to your distro.

I'm happy you were able to find something in there to solve your issue..

Are you still running Backtrack 3 on your Acer Aspire One ?

What did you need to change to solve the graphics problem you were having ?

Thanks

well, as mentioned in the first link I modified lilo.conf to boot linpus kernel for backtrack too (and I copied the modules from linpus directory to backtrack's directory). And of course i used linpus xorg.conf file. And sound is working too (I haven't tested the web camera yet and probably I won't).
So, all the work is modifying conf files and init scripts (the first page has plenty of details about that) as far as you have the linux version of aspire one. For the Windows version... I suppose things are quite difficult. Perhaps kernel was the main problem (linpus comes with kernel 2.6.23.9lw).

Thanks for checking back in and letting us know what you did to solve the issue

I actually have the windows version since it seemed to be the only way to get a 160GB Hard Drive and 1GB of RAM and the 6 Cell battery out of the box. I booted the SysrescueCD using a USB CDROM drive and shrunk the Windows partition to a very small size using gparted, then used the Debian AcerAspireOne wiki to install Debian on that free space using a flash drive. I believe I have everything working in Debian, Wireless, camera (worked immediately after install) Network, etc.. Nice little units aren't they ? Theres still 40 GB of free Space on the Drive in case I feel motivated to try another Distro as well..
