Good start-up graphics (font size, quality of image)?

Hey,

I would like to know what influences the text and image when you startup your computer, to the moment when it finds your graphics card and makes everything look nice and sleek. Is it the motherboard bios?

How to make everything to go smooth from the push of the power button? What motherboards offer this maybe little detail, but still very important to me?
