i have 20 Servers where each hosts up to 6 XEN VMs,
since I only have small HD in these Servers I would like
to buy an SAN Storage Array.
What is the best way to evaluate how much bandwidth I need for that SAN?
I would like to put 10 or more VM on each server, where the VM images live on the SAN.
One of the storage arrays I consider has two 1GB/s LAN port and does roughly 3300 IO/s.
Im trying to find an plugin for cacti that gives me IO info, but they dont work so far. I tried vmstat and iostat, but I dont know exactly how to compare that data with the data from the manufactor.

Rep:
that would depend on several factors
for example, the type of data being served, plain text data for instance would require less bandwith then say, audio or video data
also the average number of clients you intend to have accessing the data at any given point
most of the VM act as webserver, so we only generate some html with php, and they store some stuff in the mysql databses.
We have only one site that servers flash movies, the rest just text.
basic question is:
what do they mean with 3,3k IOs and how can I measure this value on my current machines?
