Question Geforce 4 Drivers

I have a Geforce4 TI4200, and a 2 day old Redhat 8.0 install. After installing, I ran Up2Date, and downloaded the latest kernel (which upgraded from 2.4.18-18.8.0 to 2.4.18-19.8.0).

Everything is working swell... but 3D is VERY slow, as I am currently using the generic geforce4 driver that anaconda chose for me.

Visiting the Nvidia page, I noticed they don't have a kernel module for my kernel release (see above). The latest I could find was 2.4.18_18.8.0. I tried all the different kernel modules that fit my system, but none of them would install correctly.

There really isn't a rush to get it working, but if it is going to be a few months before Nvidia releases a kernel mod for 2.4.18-19.8.0, I will need a temporary fix to get it working.

The Question: Should I...
A. Wait for Nvidia to release a kernel module for my release? (lol)
or
B. Figure out a way to go back to the kernel that came with my distro?
or
C. (Another option?)

Thanks for the help!

no luck, the 'make install' ended saying something to the effect of "1 error: nv.o not created".

I continued anyway, and installed the GLX, changed my Xfree config file to use the new driver, and 'startx'ed, but it gave me an error saying that it couldn't find the correct nvidia kernel module.

Any other ideas?
