Question Floppy at /dev/fd0 won't mount

I am using Mandrake Linux 8.1. I can not mount my floppy drive, which is located at . When I try to mount it from my desktop, it gives me an error message which reads Could not mount device. The reported error was: mount: dev/fd0 unknown device. Any suggestions?

Try using /dev/floppy That might get it.

Also, in KDE and maybe Gnome there is usually a little floppy icon somewhere on the desktop. See if that little guy can mount the floppy. If he can, then model your mount command in a similar fashion.

Good luck

Welcome to LinuxQuestions.

MDK 8.1 IMO had a lot of bugs and one being the desktop shortcuts didn't work. I don't remember which fixed the problem.

Right click on the icon and change the properties to point to the floppy device
or
I deleted the shortcut and recreated it all together. Right click and create new device select the floppy device and change the icon to a removable device.

You should be able to mount the device in a console window using the mount command.
mount /mnt/floppy
