Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Fixed: chicony wireless usb mouse not working

FIXED - w00t

I was trying to get a USB mouse working. It's a wireless HP branded chicony mouse with FCC ID:E8HMR-0522T. The mouse works in WinXP. A different USB mouse (wired) works on this machine just by plugging in (no config changes to be made).

For ID-ing the mouse: The mouse is red with buttons that integrate with the main body and are activated by flexing the plastic, it has a red centre wheel, no side buttons, the (new) battery is inserted at a slight angle through a flip up rear-end (like a car hood / car boot).

My main mouse at present is a PS2.

From /var/log/messages as first the not working wireless USB mouse and then the working USB mouse are plugged in and removed; note that a device at /dev/input/mouseX is assigned to the new mouse, just no cat output from that device! :

Before posting I thought I'd try plugging the mouse's USB receiver in to the tower's front USB port rather than into a keyboard based port. It works!!
